The Imperial God: A Crossover Fantasy from 2010
In 2010, exactly 15 years ago today, I took a day to indulge in a Star Wars/Star Trek crossover I knew would never happen, but I painted it nonetheless. My synopsis as I came up wth it at the time was:
”The Borg in their arrogant quest for perfection found themselves lost in time, a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. They presumed to assimilate an empire. But even the Borg weren't prepared for what would happen when they tried to assimilate the galaxy's most powerful Sith Lord. The Borg Nanites had never encountered anything like midi-clorians before and had trouble assimilating them. They didn't stand a chance against such a concentration and in the end, it was the Borg who were assimilated, becoming a vast army of light saber wielding extensions of Vader. Emperor Palpatine who had not surfaced for years after the "Borg Wars" was declared dead and Vader took his throne. The amalgamation of the midi-clorians and Borg nanites created something new and unexpected and as a result, Vader could now be everywhere at once becoming both God and Emperor.”
Below are some progress shots and the final composition. There were 2 paintings done one with Vader and the Borg Sphere (assimilated Death Star) and the other was the “borg trooper”. These were painted in gouache and the the “borg trooper was copied and pasted in Adobe Photoshop to create the finished poster.
